    All Men Are Created Equal
Colour me surprised. Never did I think that an African American man could be elected to the Presidency - that a large chunk of white Americans would be able to overcome their inner prejudices.

My views of America are coloured by my and my relatives experiences there. I have family in California who every day experience multiple instances of discrimination from having a bank teller claim they can't understand your accent to my cousin being picked up by INS and holding him until his parents brought his birth certificate to prove that he was born in the U.S. This is the America that is all too familiar to me.

Does Obama's election instantly wipe out all this racism - NO, it doesn't but I hope that it is a step in the right direction.

    sprained wrist
somehow I sprained my wrist while sleeping and it fucking hurts. I can't rotate my wrist at all or the pain shoots up my fingers as well as towards my elbow. This is very inconvenient.

    5:23 PM
I am really starting to feel tired -- I have been up and active for 12 hours.

I read today's New York Times as well as articles from the past couple of days, did 6 loads of laundry and prepped tonight's dinner of lemon & olive oil tuna steaks, couscous and tomato salad as well as assorted other activities. Needless to say, I am feeling a bit knackered.

    5:00 AM
I've been up since 5:00 am which is odd for me now. When I worked, I would get up at 6am sometimes to answer emails and begin reading the days business news.

It's been interesting watching the Wall Street melt down considering my profession relies on there being lots of jobs in capital markets. In Canada, the large investment banks are part of a bank giving them access to a strong balance sheet, nonetheless there have been lots of write downs from the American credit crisis as well as our own credit crisis(ABCP). The independent brokerages in Canada are smaller but even the larger ones have been having talks with each other to consolidate.

How does this affect headhunting -- not good at all since there are less jobs to fill with a surplus of good candidates available. It might have been a very good thing that I got out when I did from a start-up with no track record or experience in overcoming a major downturn in the market.

    BREAD
I have given up on bread -- we only get the whole wheat bread which is better for you but I HATE the taste - to me it's like eating dry cardboard.

I love white bread -- delicious, rustic baguette or ciabata or sour dough....

Sigh - I will miss you bread but I hope I can survive without you.

Someone Help Me - October Esquire
If someone sees the limited edition Esquire magazine cover that has an E-INK display, can they pick it up for me since I can't seem to find it in Toronto -- le sigh!

I am dying to hack the display.

The cover looks like this: cover

    ffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuccccckkkkkk
    dammit...dammit.....dammit

For the past two days i haven't been able to concentrate and it is starting to really get to me!

Last week I had two good meetings but I've totally lost my momentum which I need to get again if I am to get a job. I need to get my ass in gear and do my research about the firms I want to target and then start cold-calling them.

August was a total wash, I didn't get anything done from any perspective.

I want to get a new job, loose weight, paint and organize the apartment. In order to do this I need to focus, focus, focus and just do, do, do. No more thinking - just action.

Currently making meatballs following this recipe except I am using a mixture of veal and beef...... they are so good!

    Can't wait for dinner!

    DISTURBING & YET FASCINATING
It appears that a woman is trying to live her life according to Oprah and documenting it for everyone on her blog. She must be trying to get a book deal out of this...why else would anyone do this to themselves.

Personally, I blame Oprah for the slavish devotion to "spirit" -- seriously, what the fuck is that about. Her mantra is all about the self and how we must constantly feed our inner selves to the exclusion of everything and everyone else.

What happened to sucking it up and doing the right thing for your family and community. No one can be perfectly happy but supposedly it is what we should all try to be.

    GODDAMN --- NO!!!
I can't believe Tom Brady is out for the season! How can this be???

I know Belichick will think of something but still -- losing the best quarterback in the business is inconceivable especially with no good alternative. The backup quarterback played all the pre-season games and the Pats lost them all.

I just can't believe this happened.

    ANIMAL CROSSING
Animal Crossing is a video game from 2001/2002 for the Nintendo Gamecube that I played when it originally came out years ago. I bought a used copy about a month ago and have been playing it daily on the Wii since then. In that time I upgraded to the largest house and paid off all my characters debt.

Essentially the game is about a character that moves into an animal village where they initially work for the local store owned by Nook who is a Tanuki. You also do errands for the animals in your village and befriend them. Additionally, you take care of the village by pulling weeds and planting trees, etc.

While not the most "exciting" game - I am a hug fan. There are wonderful "animals" who you can hang out with. Every Saturday, K K Slider aka Totakeke plays by the train station and he gives you a copy of his song to play at your home. A huge part of the fun is collecting furniture and tsotchkes for your house.

I really enjoy "lifestyle" type games - I only wish more of these kinds of games were ported for North American systems but alas they are often only available in Japan. I dream of playing Boku no Natsuyasumi aka My Summer Holiday.

Tropic Thunder & Rain of Madness
Tropic Thunder was absolutely hilarious. It was so funny I was laughing out loud in the movie theatre and actually making comments about the movie which irritated the people behind us but who cares --- I had a total blast!

After watching Tropic Thunder, you should definitely download Rain of Madness - an absolutely brilliant documentary about the making of Tropic Thunder.

    Employment Insurance
I finally received EI - even though it is no where near what I earned, which sucks but it is nice to have some income coming in though!

The crazy thing is that EI was so swamped with claims that instead of the usual 4 - 6 weeks it takes to process a claim, they told me it could take up to 9 weeks. It ended up taking 8 weeks for my claim which is crazy!

I can't imagine what I would have done if I didn't have any savings.

    A $300 Dildo
This is the best review of a dildo I have ever read and this line in particular is awesome:

"The Eleven offers an unparalleled feeling of fullness — a large, substantial sensation that had me thanking the powers that be that I was born with a vagina."

    I'm Back Bitches
So it's been awhile since I posted and many things have occurred which I will post about but I am finally starting to feel better about myself and everything that has happened. I hadn't realized how much I hated all the people I worked with and how it was making me a very angry and stressed out person. I constantly felt like I was going to be fucked over by my boss and so called colleagues and that is not a healthy way to live.

    STYLE WARS: A GRAFFITI HISTORY
We just watched an old PBS documentary called Style Wars which was SICK! The website is sick as well.

The emphasis is bombing but it also covers breaking and hip hop. The music in the doc is by Grandmaster Flash, Sugar Hill Gang, etc and has The Rock Steady Crew breakin away. Pure early 80's nostalgia for Gloss and me.

I remember being a kid in the early to mid 80s visiting family in California and trying to break dance as well as taking up skateboarding. It's funny that the 80s are back but really only the crappy shit. It would be so sick if there was a total revival of early hip hop and break dancing and skateboarding along with all the truly sweet retro street styling from back then.

You should all check this documentary out and if you get the chance to see Bomb It at a rep theatre near you - you should totally check it out(we missed the T.O. screening).

    Life or something like it
So obviously, I have been getting over the shock of being fired by cleaning and trying to learn to relax and enjoy the freedom of not having to deal with people I hate anymore. It has been a challenge but a pleasure as well.

During this time, we saw Wall-E which was just brilliant. If you haven't seen it you should!

I have also played a bit of Guitar Hero - Aerosmith! I'm a big cock rock fan and Aerosmith fits the bill nicely.

I have also been getting into baseball more despite not having cable to watch the games. I just finished reading Moneyball and it is fascinating. When sabermetrics originally rose to prominence, I too had a gut reaction that reducing baseball to a model seemed flawed but after reading the book, I know see how radical it is and how flawed traditional baseball thinking is. It is about trying to minimize risk and taking advantage of the inefficiencies in the market. Of course there are intangibles that can't be controlled but it is about trying to hedge your bets. As someone who is very risk averse - this is highly appealing to me.
